¡Ayer fue mi cumpleaños!!
Tuve la suerte que justo Alex llegó ayer con su hermano, que vino a acompañarlo a pedalear durante un mes, así que salimos a cenar los tres, más otros tres huéspedes del "Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel". Al final resultó una noche muy agradable en la que disfruté del regalo de volver a compartir un ratito con Alex. No obstante, ellos comienzan su periplo ruandés, mientras que yo hoy me despedí de ellos y salí camino a Tanzania.
Este cumpleaños es especial por estar disfrutando de este maravillosa aventura, en la que me dejo llevar por mi corazón, venciendo mis miedos e incertidumbres. Este viaje es un regalo muy valioso que me hace sentir la vida con intensidad, descubrir y crecer. Me ha permitido prescindir de lo superfluo y saborear el placer de lo esencial: conseguir agua, comida y un lugar para dormir, disfrutar de la naturaleza y la compañía de los que me encuentro o me acompañan, mantenerme sano y poco más. Cada noche me acuesto en mi tienda con la satisfacción y el agradecimiento de haber vivido otro día intenso y haber conseguido llegar hasta ese pedazo de tierra en el que he puesto mi caseta. Como diría Jorge Bucay, se trata de un periodo de tiempo que pasaría íntegramente a la libreta del cuento: "El buscador".
Si no fuera suficiente, me he hecho otro regalazo. Hace unas semanas llegué al Parque Nacional Bwindi. Su mayor reclamo es el caro trekking con los gorilas, al que ni Alex ni yo le prestamos mucha atención.
En Kabale, a punto de abandonar Uganda, me vino una duda a la cabeza: si no los veo ahora.... ¿Cuándo? Así que rebusqué bien en los bolsillos, hice cálculos.... ¡y me fui a verlos!!
Tras un pateo de varias horas por el bosque, los guardas localizaron a una de las familias de gorilas. El tamaño de estos animales es impresionante, sus movimientos pausados, su mirada humana.... Te preguntas qué estarán pensando cuando se quedan mirándote directo a los ojos. No se parecen a ningún otro animal que yo haya visto.
La visita se restringe a una hora para tratar de repercutir lo menos posible en la rutina de estos animales que se han acostumbrado a la presencia humana y siguen su vida sin prestarnos mucha atención. Para la mayoría de los turistas, por ejemplo mis siete compañeros de grupo, esta actividad es el punto culminante de su viaje de alrededor de 10 días por Uganda. Además no les resulta caro pagar un mínimo de 650 €, pues muchos de ellos se alojan en lodges en los que pagan entre 300 y 400 euros la noche.
Pero mis sensaciones fueron diferentes. Mi punto culminante del viaje hasta ahora sigue siendo haber cruzado el parque nacional Queen Elizabeth con Alex en bicicleta. El habernos atrevido y haber salido de una pieza me llena de una satisfacción que los gorilas no pudieron transmitirme. Además, fue gratis. En un mes en Uganda hemos gastado en total menos de 300 euros cada uno, por lo que para mi, ver los gorilas sí fue exorbitantemente caro.
No obstante, me encantó verlos y se lo recomiendo a todos los que dispongan del dinero y no les apetezca cruzar un Parque Nacional en bicicleta.

7) A different birthday.

Yesterday it was my birthday.
I was lucky that Alex just arrived yesterday with his brother, who had joined him to pedal for one month, so we went to have dinner together with three other guests hosted at "Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel". Eventually, it was a very pleasant evening in which I enjoyed the gift to share my birthday with Alex. However, they begin their journey in Rwanda while today I am leavingb towards Tanzania.
This birthday is special because I am enjoying this wonderful adventure, in which I let myself flow with my heart, overcoming my fears and uncertainties. This journey is a very important gift that makes me feel life with intensity, search and grow. It has allowed me to avoid superfluous issues and enjoy the pleasure of essential: getting water, food and a place to sleep, enjoying nature and the company of those I meet or share the travel, staying healthy, and little else. Every night I go to bed in my tent with the satisfaction and gratitude of having lived another intense day and having managed to reach that piece of land where I have put my tent. As Jorge Bucay would say, this is a period of time that would pass entirely to the notebook of the story: "The seeker".
If that were not enough, I have given myself another great gift. About one month ago Alex and I arrived at Bwindi National Park. Its main attraction is the expensive trekking to see the gorillas, which neither Alex nor I paid any attention.
In Kabale, about to leave Uganda, A doubt came to my mind: If I do not see then now .... When? So I searched in my pockets, I made some calculations .... and I went to see them!!
After several hours of hiking in the forest, the guards located one gorilla family. These animal’s size is impressive, their movements slow, their human look .... You wonder what they are thinking when they keep staring straight into your eyes. They do not look like any other animal that I have ever seen.
The visit is restricted to one hour close to them, in order to avoid as much as possible to disturb the routine of these animals that have become used to human presence and continue their lives without paying much attention. For most tourists, for example my seven mates on the trekking, this activity is the highlight of their trip of around 10 days in Uganda. Besides they do not find expensive to pay a minimum of 650 €, since many of them stayed at very luxury lodges that cost between 300 and 400 euros per night.
For me it is different. The highlight of my journey so far remains to have crossed the Queen Elizabeth National Park with Alex cycling. The fact that we dared to get in the park and were able to get out in one piece, fills myself with satisfaction that the gorillas did not transmit me. Beside, It was for free. In a month in Uganda we have spent less than 300 euros each, so for me, watching the gorillas was crazy expensive.
However, I really enjoy watching them and I advise you to do it if you have the money and do not feel like crossing a National Park by bicycle.
