¿Por qué este blog?

[English below... as I'm able]

Why this blog?

A few years ago a friend recommended me the book: "Africa with a couple", by Álvaro Neil, a cyclo-tourist who has been riding around the world since 2004 in a wonderful project to bring joy wherever he goes. I was fascinated to discover this way of travelling, so I wanted to know more. In addition of buying other books by Álvaro and other travellers, the main source of information was Internet.

For me, a trip begins when I start looking for the information that other travellers share on the net. I also look for information in the country guides, but when you go by bicycle you care about things that are not found in any guide, such as: if the shoulders of the road are wide or sandy, the distance to find water, the direction and intensity of the local winds .... So the information that other cyclists share on the network is essential for planning a journey in which you can become so vulnerable. When I decided to do my first big bicycle trip: 8 months through South America, I had to make my contribution to this community of bicycle travellers, which materialized in the Blog:

Now I'm in another great trip, this time through Africa. There is a lot of disinformation about this continent, mainly because we think of Africa as a single place, while the reality is that the diversity of cultures, biodiversity, climates, etc. in this continent is overwhelming. Taking the risk to discover this mysterious and amazing continent is worth it.

When people think of a journey riding a bicycle, they imagine a tough experience, but the cycle-travellers do not associate our trips with that, but with satisfaction. Of course, some days have been hard and difficult, but the main feeling each day is satisfaction and pride with which you go to sleep after knowing that you were able to get the food and water you needed, a place to spend the night, feel the kindness and recognition of the anonymous people you meet ... The fullness that you experience on a bicycle trip changes the tough moments, that there are, in only anecdotes without importance.

So, with this blog I try to raise the curiosity of some people who have never made a bicycle trip and to encourage them to experience it. As I did, I suggest to start with a small and controlled journey. Once you experience this kind of travel, once you leave behind the feelings of effort and danger, you will want to repeat it.

Just do it!!!
